Moeller recounts the activities of The Museum of Modern Art during World War II, the association between the Museum, Nelson A. Rockefeller, and the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs (Washington, D.C.), and in the process, provides a vivid description of New York during. the War. She explains how the Museum Library functioned under the direction of Bernard Karpel in the 1940's and 1950's and offers reminiscences of Film Librarian Iris Barry, Karpel, and the staff fine-arts photographer Soichi Sunami. Moeller discusses the need for, and subsequent establishment of, a department of photographic rights and reproductions, and the changing function of that department during her tenure as its director. Other topics include the Museum fire of 1958 and its aftermath; the death of Rene d'Harnoncourt and the memorial service held in Cutchoque, New York, in 1968; and Special Collections acquisitions.
